abdomen (AB-doh-men)
The area of the body that contains the pancreas, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and other organs.
Abdominal lines
Vertical lines. The vertical abdominal lines are the inferior extension of the toracic lines.
Horizontal lines. The horizontal abdominal lines are: the transpyloric line, subcostal line and intertubercular line.
Abdominal regions
The vertical and horizontal abdominal lines divide the abdomen in 9 regions (this division regards the anterior abdominal wall) that in the craniocaudal and middle-lateral directions are: epigastrium, hypochondrium (right and left), mesogastrium, flank (right and left), hypogastrium, inguinal (right and left).
