Definition

Alcohol related disorders include alcohol use disorders, dependence and abuse, and alcohol induced disorders, such as alcohol intoxication and withdrawal.

Alcohol Dependence

A single question for screening, "'How many times in the past year have you had X or more drinks in a day?', where X is 5 for men and 4 for women, and a response of >1 is considered positive" has accuracy of:[1]

  • Sensitivity 82%
  • Specificity 79%

Epidemiology

The high prevalence of alcohol related disorders is likely to result in increased prevalence of Hepatocellular carcinoma.[2] Epidemiology findings also showed that individuals with alcohol dependence have a high risk of suicide.[3]
