Insomnia, also called sleep initiation and maintenance disorders is a group of disorders "characterized by impairment of the ability to initiate or maintain sleep. This may occur as a primary disorder or in association with another medical or psychiatric condition."[1]

Treatment

Zolpidem combined with cognitive behavioral therapy for six weeks followed by cognitive behavioral therapy alone for 6 months can cause remission in 56% of patients with persistent insomnia.[2]
