Female pseudohermaphrodites are chromosomally and gonadally female, but have male or ambiguous external genitalia. There is a variable degree of clitoral hypertrophy and labial fusion. The ovaries are sometimes cystic. Secondary sexual characteristics may also show virilization or poor feminization. Female pseudohermaphroditism is caused by excess of androgens (e.g., testosterone) of extragonadal origin. It is an umcommon condition (less than 1/10,000), and may be familial or sporadic.

- Fetal Source of Androgen
- Congenital virilizing adrenal hyperplasia (CYP21, CYP11B1 or 3β-HSD II deficiency)
- Aromatase (CYP19) deficiency
- Maternal Androgens and Synthetic Progestagens
