Primary care is the group of health services that meet most basic, general health care needs over time, and is usually provided by a primary care physician or PCP. Primary care includes diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions as well as preventive care such as immunizations and screenings. Primary care physicians are the first health professionals most patients see for basic medical care, and may refer patients to more specialized physicians.
